Hawkesbury & District General Hospital (HDGH)
HGH, located in the most eastern part of Ontario, serves the residents from Ontario’s Eastern Counties and the Quebec border regions. As a regional secondary level hospital facility, HGH works collaboratively with The Ottawa Hospital, its major referral centre and other health care providers in the Eastern Ontario Region. Agnew Peckham was retained in 2008 to develop a functional program for a major expansion of the hospital including most clinical and diagnostic areas.
Working with the Hospital, MOHLTC and architects, we were able to advocate for a redevelopment plan that will optimize patient and family centred care, operational efficiency and flexibility within the capital constraints.
Our commitment to integrated planning was reflected in the schematic design submission and subsequent sketch plans submission. At both stages, we assessed the drawings to identify opportunities to improve alignment with the functional program, facilitated discussions to support transition from current to future operational processes incorporating Lean principles and developed options for optimizing the design within limited space.
Agnew Peckham’s hospital facility planning principles for patient and family centred care, operational efficiency, safety and flexibility/adaptability formed the foundation for our ongoing contribution to the redevelopment project and are reflected in the final plans for the expanded HGH. The project is scheduled to go to tender in 2013 and construction start is targeted for 2014.
